Much to Blanchette's delight, she was born out of wedlock, the product of a very passionate, quick affair lacking in judgement. To both parties privy to the affair, it was a terrible inconvenience; Blanchette's mother being religiously adamant about abortion, she determinedly carried her child to term. Blanchette's father chose not to stay to see how it turned out, as he was just beginning his career as a law intern in Paris and lacked the money, time, or effort; hence, Blanchette wasn't really quite aware she had a father until very recently, and didn't particularly care.

She grew up in Cherbourg with her very pretty mother, who worked full-time as a seamstress to support her education at an English immersion school. Blanchette's mother had complicated feelings towards Blanchette: on one hand, she had moved far away from her own parents in the south, and sacrificed everything for her child's well-being. She was lonely, and as Blanchette grew up, she was often treated as more of a friend than a daughter. On the other, she was a little resentful— her daughter had robbed her of her own chances at a better life. To compensate for the feelings of resentment, her mother often showered her in affection when she was around, much to Blanchette's generalized glee. For some children, it may have spoiled them rotten; for Blanchette, it simply made her crave attention from everybody she met.

Her mother would often coo over how cute she was, and Blanchette quite easily believed it. It was in this vein that she began to carefully manipulate situations so that everyone in the vicinity, too, would agree with her. In the end, it gave Blanchette a very delicately swelled ego, that can often puncture at the slightest neglect, sending her plummeting down to a metaphorical emotional abyss of gross sobbing and self-pity puddles.

She's a crybaby at heart, although when she actually gets into a sobbing fit, she insists nobody looks; she's an ugly crier, and her face goes all puffy. But she's quite content to cry in public, as long as it's dripping a couple dainty, pretty tears for pity.

Despite her inferiority complex and ensuing manipulation, it often backfires in her face. While she's automatically jealous and resentful towards any girl who's prettier than her, in the end, her heart is a little too soft and malleable to people who are kind to her. Often, her jealousy and resent only lasts until the target turns around and says something nice, to which she'll often cling very desperately like a cocaine addict. Blanchette will often become the mask, with false affection turning real all-too-rapidly and developing a certain dependency and possessiveness over these people, and a certain rather frightening streak of assertiveness in getting them to love her back.

Quite recently, her mother got remarried; her stepfather is actually quite nice, but Blanchette likes to talk about him as if to imply he's a domestic abuser to make people hate him as much as she does. Predictably, she doesn't like sharing her mother. However, in the meantime, her father got back in contact with the family, offering to fund her education; this is how she ended up at World Academy, where her father insisted she should expand her horizons.

(Yeah, good luck with that, Mr Hérriot.)
